Bolivian exports to the U.S. in the third quarter of 2012 reached a record high to exceed 1,100 million, driven mainly by higher exports of minerals and crude oil. It was the third most important destination market for exports in the country, according to the bulletin "figures", published by the Bolivian Foreign Trade Institute.
In September 2012, foreign purchases from the U.S. totaled $ 612 million, putting it in fourth place among the major markets Bolivia suppliers.
Cumulative exports to the U.S., between 2002 and 2011, amounted to 4,398 million dollars, while imports totaled 4.781 million (-383 000 000).
U.S. grants tariff preferences under the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP). The GSP is reviewed annually and is now in effect until July 2013.
Until September 2012, Bolivia exported to U.S. 335 products, totaling $ 1,129 million, being the main "waste and scrap gold" with $ 599 million, followed by "Tin ingots" with $ 137 million and "amalgams of precious metals" with $ 97 million.
After nine months, Bolivia 3670 products bought by U.S. $ 612 million. The main imports were "Other unwrought forms of gold" with $ 22 million, "Gas Turbines" (19 million) and "Road tractors for semi-trailers" ($ 18 million).
