Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister begins official visit to Bolivia

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Europe and America, Ali Asghar Khaji, arrives on Wednesday December 5, on an official visit to Bolivia to review bilateral relations between the two countries and discuss issues of regional and international news.

During his stay, Deputy Foreign Minister will meet with the Bolivian authorities, who will review bilateral relations and exchange views on issues of regional and international situation.

The presence of the vice chancellor comes five months after Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad visited Bolivia for the third time, shows the close relations between the two countries since the coming to power of Evo Morales in 2006.

Ahmadinejad's previous visits to Bolivia took place in 2007 and 2009 to strengthen strategic partnerships, economic, military and security.

Both presidents also met in Tehran in 2008, the first visit by a Bolivian president to the country, and in 2010.

In addition, in May 2011 the Iranian Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi, wanted in Argentina for an attack that left 85 dead in 1994, arrived in the eastern city of Santa Cruz, invited by the government of Morales to attend military events.

The Bolivian Foreign Ministry had to apologize to the Argentine authorities following complaints, among others, of the Jewish communities in Bolivia and Argentina.
